We consider training an essential part of our practice. For people to thrive they need progression and fulfilment at all stages of their career.

Nothing gives us greater pleasure than seeing our team dream, develop and achieve their goals. We welcome ideas, initiative and value hard work and pushing beyond your comfort zone.

We have been a part of NHS Education for Scotland’s training programme for junior vocational dental trainees (DVTs) since 2017. Both Andrew and Jayne take on the role of mentoring our DVTs which sees us welcome new dentists to the team every August for 1 year. We pride ourselves on providing our trainees with a varied introduction to dentistry and an insight into NHS and private practice in a well established practice and team.

The presence of trainees, new ideas, open doors, open minds, and open discussions has developed a culture within our team where we all question, we improve, where no idea, no question, is too silly. We all benefit from the experience of each other.

Our desire to help our team develop extends to our wonderful team of nurses, therapists and Front of house, encouraging them to take on responsibility and allowing them opportunity to create and develop their own ideas and make improvements to they way we operate and enhance the care we provide patients.

Dental Vocational Training

Since 2018 we have established ourselves as a training practice for Dental Vocational trainees. Both Jayne Grunwell and Andy Gunning are mentors to young dentists in their first year of working. Offering their experience and time to ensure that they build a great foundation on which to develop their career.

Training has changed our practice, encouraging development within the whole team and a drive and desire to constantly learn and develop.

We have monthly meetings during which cases can be discussed and learning can be shared. This is open to the whole Clinical Team.

Mentorship

Over the years our mentorship has extended beyond our Dental Vocational Trainees (DVT). We work with new employees to ensure they get the training they need to give them the best start within our practice. Our experience of DVT training has given us basis on which to mentor other members of the team such as Dental Therapists freshly out of training or new to working in the UK.

Nursing Team Development

We know that many enthusiastic young workers need to progress and see progress to ensure continued development and enjoyment in their job. We love nothing more than to see our team step out of their comfort zone and develop themselves. We have many examples of our team proactively taking control of their career, asking us to progress, and doing so. Our effort will always equal yours.

We have a yearly CPD budget which can be used by our team to enhance their skills. We do encourage all of our nurses to undertake a radiology course. Examples of course options include Implant Nursing, Ortho Nursing, Radiology, Oral Health Education and Childsmile.

Our pay scale is structured around additional qualifications and responsibility.
